almost perfect

Pros:

* High quality build and excellent feel. I don't understand how I managed to live with the likes of Logitech for so long!
* The OSA profile is perfect for typo-free typing without much elevation (so perfect for this board) because the QWERTY row is quite elevated and I never accidentally press the keys below. This is especially useful when going back and forth between this and a laptop keyboard. I need a wrist wrest though.
* The more I type on this board the more I appreciate it.
* Without mods this board is pretty quiet and could probably be used in an office environment.

Cons:
* Aliexpress shipping took 1.5 Months so I recommend buying directly from here instead.
* The PCB is black? The backlight would look nicer/brighter with a white PCB. This makes no sense to me and is definitely a step down from other boards.
* A bit on the clacky side even with tempest mod.

Overall I am glad that Keychron and others are producing such high quality boards at a reasonable price.

Q1 v2 w/ Knob, I was going to mod with new switches, tape mod, break mod.

Potential buyer, don't buy anything for this board until after you hear and feel it. I have a roll of tape, and some teddy bear filler all waiting to rip into this board. Watched all the reviews and figured I wanted to be ready to modify to my liking. Well that all went sideways... I put the board on my desk, loaded up via and realized well this thing actually sounds great already. Had to lube up (2) stabs to quiet them down, but outside of that I haven't touched the board. I even have a PC plate coming in because I wanted more of the rain drop sound, but this plate sounds great. Honestly its not a Jelly Epoch, but its damn close to the sound. The v2 has no metal ping what so ever. Seems to have a little less flex then the v1, but still a soft typing experience. Honestly best board for the money. The XDA keycaps are a bit cheap, the legend is all over the place, but the typing experience is fine. Great board, you wont regret it.

Excellent Keyboard for the Price Point, I recommend getting the barebone version

I've e owned the keyboard for a month now and this is my honest opinion on it so far.

I bought the fully assembled version and I honestly do not recommend doing so. I personally did not like the stock switches (I got the gateron browns), I am not sure if the factory lube is just not that good for it or the switch itself is just meh but I wasn't fan of it. I ended up buying Gateron Oil Kings and they are top notch switches but everyone should experiment and use whatever switches they like.

As for the Keycaps, the ones that came with the keyboard was okay at best, not the biggest fan of the legends. I even bought one of their keycaps (OEM Dye-Sub PBT Keycap Set - Bluish Black White), they look much better tbh but I think it would be wise to look else where for better looking keycaps, better material of your choice, and if you buy high quality ones they will also give deeper *thocker* sounds for your keyboard.

As for the case, I love it tbh. I think its really well done. However mine came with a very small scratch on the outside but its on one of the edges so it didn't bother me much. I would recommend getting better foam though, using the force break mod (search it on YouTube), and applying the masking tape mod on the pcb, and finally if you wanna go all the way change the stabilizers (I tinkered with the original ones a bit and they all ended up sounding fine except the spacebar still feels rattily). These mods will very much change how your keyboard sounds for the better but I think it also sounds fine stock.

All in all I would definitely recommend this board to other people. If you are an enthusiast willing to apply mods this keyboard making it even better, and if you wanna just buy a ready to use keyboard this is still a very solid choice.

One last note, this keyboard is readily available to buy (usually always available in stock and at max delivery should only take a week) and that's a huge bonus imo since most keebs these days are either too expensive, out of stock, or only available in group buys which I am not a fan of.

Hope this lengthy review helps someone iut there to make his decision! :)

Excellent listening to criticism!

I toyed with the idea of buying so many different barebones keyboards, and after watching plenty of reviews, I decided the keychron Q1 sounded best. The reviews i'd seen were all making the same sorts of criticisms, and it would seem that keychron really listened. It shipped fast, packaging was clean and looked great, and they supplied me with everything I need to build. The only thing that they can't seem to work around is the pinging of the board, but being made of aluminium, its a bit of a tough one to fix. I recommend using the tape mod, because after just easily modding, the board has zero ping. The case is a little tough with my keycap profile, but also easily fixed by filing in the corners.

Overall, looks, feels, sounds and works amazingly. 10/10 would recommend for a starter in the hobby. :))

I love how it sounds and how it feels on my fingers!

This is my first time buying custom keyboard and I made the right choice. Q1 feels and sounds nice just out of the box. What I like the best about my Q1 is keycaps. The round edged new OSA profile keycap looks really cute, and I really love the colors they've chosen! not to mention it even feels nice on fingers. I love my Q1!! :)

Switch layouts between
macOS & Windows.

Built with the Mac users’ experience in mind while still retaining compatibility for Windows devices, Keychron Q1 comes with a system toggle and an additional set of customized keycaps for both Windows and macOS systems. You will be able to save two different layouts in the keyboard, one for each system.

Program Q1 with
QMK & VIA.

With full QMK and VIA support, you can program and remap each key on the keyboard with ease. The open-source firmware means endless possibilities for keyboard layouts, shortcuts, backlight effects, and more.

Keychron Q1 75% Custom Mechanical Keyboard QMK VIA

VIA is a keyboard keymap programming software. Using VIA, you can define every key and even write MACROS for the key combinations you want on your Q1. VIA supports macOS, Windows & Linux.

Hot-swappable.

The hot-swappable sockets are mounted on the PCB, so you can install or change the switches without soldering. The PCB supports both 3 pin and 5 pin MX mechanical switches.

South-facing RGB LED Lights.

The south-facing RGB SMD LED lights are easy to be seen because they are facing toward the typer. It’s also good for the PBT, Cherry profile, and non-shine-through keycaps which are popular for customized keycaps.

Gateron Phantom switches.

Keychron teamed up with Gateron to create the exclusive Phantom switches. They deliver near-perfect consistency and smoothness with each keypress. Phantom switches are pre-lubed from the factory, offer less wobbliness, while increasing the switch's stability.

Note: The phantom switches have phantom light effects that allow the RGB backlight to have the switches' own case color. The red will make the backlights have more of a red lava fire effect, the blue will allow the backlights to have a more of a mysterious blizzard-like effect , and the brown will make the backlights have a light coffee color effect.

Keychron Q1 75% Custom Mechanical Keyboard Gateron Phantom Switches
Keychron Q1 75% Custom Mechanical Keyboard stabilizers

All new Gateron screw-in PCB stablizers.

The screw-in design increases stability and makes it easy for changes and upgrades. More precise craftsmanship makes the silver-plated stabilizers more stable and less wobbly. The big keys’ (space bar, shift, enter, delete) typing experience is more stable and smooth.

Keychron Q1 also support third-party stabilizers including Cherry or Durock.

Cable management is easy with the premium coiled cable.

Whether your computer's interface is on the left, right, or front of the desk, the premium coiled cable can be laid out in any manner.  We have also designed the coiled cables in different colors to match the different color cases.

ANSI & ISO layouts.

ISO layout is widely used in the Europe while the ANSI layout is widely used by the rest of the world.

Note: If you live in the Europe, we recommend you to purchase the "Barebone ISO” version with the corresponding ISO PBT keycaps together. The "Barebone ISO” is suitable for all ISO keyboard countries like the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland etc.
